Overview:
The Doddridge County Office of Emergency Management & Floodplain works to help protect the residents, property, and infrastructure of Doddridge County. The office coordinates preparedness, planning, response, recovery, and mitigation activities for emergencies and disasters while ensuring compliance with state and federal floodplain regulations.
Emergency Management:
The Emergency Management portion of the office is responsible for organizing, guiding, and coordinating the county’s response to emergencies and disasters. The office works closely with local agencies, first responders, state partners, and federal organizations to support public safety and effective incident management.
Key emergency management functions include:
• Developing and maintaining county emergency plans
• Supporting local responders during incidents
• Coordinating disaster recovery efforts
• Conducting hazard and risk assessments
• Helping the community prepare for emergencies
• Maintaining communication systems and county warning tools
• Working with county leadership during major events
Floodplain Management:
The Floodplain Management program ensures that development within the county’s flood‑prone areas follows state and federal regulations. This helps protect people and property, reduces flood risks, and keeps Doddridge County in good standing with the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP).
Floodplain responsibilities include:
• Reviewing and issuing floodplain permits
• Ensuring compliance with WV State Code and FEMA requirements
• Providing guidance for residents, builders, and property owners
• Maintaining county floodplain maps and records
• Assisting with mitigation projects and long‑term flood risk reduction
• Supporting FEMA flood insurance and disaster assistance programs
